Hi,
We already have fast roaming with the latest firmware revision. Is there any plan to add support for band steering among different radios of an AP? Thanks and looking forward to seeing it.

Yes. I actually was starting to play with it last night.
At least initially I won’t enable full steering, but turning on inter-AP communication and sharing of connected clients lists will help give a good picture of the network and hasn’t been previously available.

Thanks Lantis.
Actually I experienced band steering with WRT32XB or WRT3200ACM and it was not bad. There is a `bandsteer` setting in /etc/config/wireless for each radio. -Angus

In the OEM firmware? I assume this is a proprietary function, or they may be making use of the hostapd functionality which only works when one instance handles both radios

Get some clue from the above. It seems to me that hostapd achieves band steering.

Re: Band steering among different radios of an AP
Yes it is hostapd. It's not possible in Gargoyle as it uses separate hostapd instances.
In a future version it may be possible as upstream has moved to single instances, however they are also pushing a more powerful alternative usteer.

A page regarding "Setting up usteer and band-steering in OpenWrt" is seen on official OpenWrt. We are supposed to be band steering configurable with OpenWrt 21.02.x.
Re: Band steering among different radios of an AP
In Gargoyle 1.15.x, yes.

Thanks Lantis! I'll be waiting for upcoming Gargoyle revision.
Band steering is good to small apartment layout. You don't really need to deploy mesh routers in such scenario.
