Implementation Overview

The basic idea behind the implementation of Gargoyle is to do as much of the computation on the client side as possible. The router typically has a 200mhz processor, 32MB or less of RAM and 8MB or less of disk (flash drive) space. The clients connecting will typically have multi-GHz processors and over 512 MB of RAM. Even without considering delay introduced by the network connection, which do you think is going to be faster? Therefore, the majority of Gargoyle is imple…

Introduction

Fon Flash is a new program based on AP51 flash, for flashing La Fonera and Atheros chipset compatible devices. It has been tested, and works with the original 2100/2200 devices, as well as the newer Fon+ and Fon2.0 models.

Primary improvement

The primary improvement in Fon Flash over AP51 flash is that it can flash several different types of firmware. While AP51 flash is suitable for flashing Gargoyle / OpenWrt, it cannot flash the latest official Fon NG firmware which requires…

Overview -- READ FIRST

Installing the firmware onto your router is probably the trickiest part of using Gargoyle. There are basically two ways to do this. You can either (1) install OpenWrt Kamikaze and then install Gargoyle as a set of packages on top of it, or (2) install one…

If you're trying to compile FonFlash for Windows... I pity you. You need to install both wxWidgets and WinPcap. Because I'm a lazy bum, the vcproj file has the locations of these on MY system, but probably not on yours. You'll have to adjust them for the locations you installed wxWidgets/WpdPack. For reference on my system wxWidgets is in c:\wxWidgets-2.8.9 and WpdPack is in C:\WpdPack. Have fun and good luck compiling. You'll need it.

Prerequisite

On Windows you will need to first install WinPcap. Vista users may also need to install MSVC++. I am currently working to recompile Fon Flash for Vista, to eliminate this latter dependency, but for now this is necessary for Vista Users.
