Hi.

I would like to setup a wireless repeater, though using an Ethernet wired link from the main WAN router to the repeater device rather than a wireless link.

Would I be correct in assuming that if I set the 'Wan Ethernet Port' setting to 'Bridge to LAN' and made an Ethernet connection from one of the Ethernet ports on my main WAN router to the WAN port on the repeater router, and made all other settings as shown in the diagram this would provide the wired repeater arrangement I am trying to install?

Both devices would be WNDR3700 and running the latest firmware put out by ispyisail.

Thanks

Set “Connect Via” to Disabled

Bridge WAN to LAN.
Setup AP as required.

You won’t get any of the Gargoyle smarts in this configuration as it is just a “dumb switch”

Thanks Lantis. I had hoped my approach would allow the relayd approach to work except with a wired link instead of a wireless link. It appears such is not the case.

Thanks for the reply and all the great work with Gargoyle.

You can try using relayd for what you want to do, but you’d need to set it up manually at the command line.

I’d actually be very interested in the results.

Thanks for that Lantis. If you could point me in the right direction to find some documentation on how to set up relayd from the command line in Gargoyle I would like to give it a go.

While I am a bit of a novice, with your help I did set up some cron jobs a while ago to change my QOS settings to adjust for problems with my ISP bandwidth limit changing due to congestion. The more hints you can provide for command line control of realyd the better chance I can work it out.

Thanks

I haven’t tried it.
But you’ll be following this recipe https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/recipes/relayclient

In this example you use relayd to relay between wifi (wwan) and lan
We probably want to achieve a relay between WAN and LAN.
